‘In-Between’ is an exploration of portraiture, performance, and the camera as a witness to change.
Centred on the moving body of Julie Havelund, a dancer and yoga teacher, from Denmark, living by the sea in the UK. The piece reflects on location, change, the experience of pregnancy and postpartum, capturing the quiet, shifting moments in between. Emerging from a long period of waiting and uncertainty, ‘In-Between’ silently speaks to transition, embodiment, and the earth’s elements that hold us through it.
Development
For In-Between, I filmed on a Blackmagic 4K using a range of lenses to capture intimate details, wide shots, and mid-length performance angles. I edited in Premiere Pro, designed titles in After Effects, and completed the sound in Adobe Audition. The final single-screen film reflects my intention to create emotive, poetic portraits, and focus on experimentation, sound, and collaborative filmmaking.
